The Fledgling Phoenix is a blog showcasing the works of prose and poetry of Renato R. Silva. Renato was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil living there until the age of 10. Shortly after his 10th birthday he moved to Boston to live with his mother, where he discovered his first love: literature. Growing up in a country that was never truly his and constantly being reminded he was an outsider, Renato found solace in the minds of Ernest Hemingway, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Milan Kundera, Kurt Vonnegut, Virginia Woolf, and Roberto Bolano among others. Attempting to emulate his heroes, Renato writes by day and is a bartender at night. When not writing or working, you can find him obliterating the competition in monopoly, drinking wit beers at a dive bar, or wandering the city aimlessly. Renato currently resides in Massachusetts.
